Benjamin Sholder was born on 25 March 1844 at farm of Christian (Scholderer) Sholder, Lycoming Township, Lycoming County, Pennsylvania.1 He was the son of Christian August Scholderer and Anna Margareta Lutscher.2,1 Benjamin Sholder married, at age 34, Emma L. Goldy, age 18, daughter of James Henry Goldy and Francis Cupp, on Thursday, 2 May 1878.1 Benjamin Sholder died on 5 April 1919 at age 75 years and 11 days.3 He was buried in the Wildwood Cemetery, located in Williamsport, Lycoming County, Pennsylvania.

Benjamin Sholder was listed as living in the household of Christian August Scholderer in the Seventh Census for the United States of America, enumerated on 19 September 1850 Lycoming Township, Lycoming County, Pennsylvania, age 6 born in Pennsylvania.4
Benjamin Sholder was enumerated on 30 July 1860 as a resident in the household of Christian August Scholderer in the Eighth Census for the United States of America, in the State of Pennsylvania, Lycoming County, Old Lycoming Township age 16 born in Pennsylvania.5
The "History of Lycoming County, Pennsylvania" was published in 1892. John F. Meginness, editor helped to preserve the biographies for the families living in the area at that time. On page 1135 we find a short sketch for Benjamin describing his family at that time:
BENJAMIN SHOLDER, fourth son of Christian Sholder, Sr., was born on the homestead farm in Old Lycoming township, March 25, 1844. He resided at home until 1876, when he formed a partnership with F. L. Goldy, and they purchased their present truck farm, and have since been engaged in that business. He was married, May 2, 1878, to Emma, daughter of James Goldy, who has borne him two children: Clarence, and Ethel. Mr. Sholder is an active Democrat, and though never holding any public office, he has always taken great interest in the success of his party. He has been a delegate to the county conventions many times. He is a member of Lycoming Presbyterian church, of Newberry, and is an adherent of the Farmers Alliance.1 He and Emma L. Goldy joined the Presbyterian Church of Williamsport in 1899. Benjamin Sholder and Emma L. Goldy appeared on the census of 7 June 1900 at Old Lycoming Township, Lycoming County, Pennsylvania. Benjamin Sholder and Emma L. Goldy appeared on the census of 21 April 1910 at Old Lycoming Township, Lycoming County, Pennsylvania. Benjamin Sholder appears in family photograph on 24 August 1912 Williamsport, Lycoming County, Pennsylvania. This was taken as a part of a family reunion in which this photograph appeared in the Sunday Grit on 1 September 1912.
