     John Sholder was born on 29 May 1849 at farm of Christian (Scholderer) Sholder, Lycoming Township, Lycoming County, Pennsylvania.2 He was the son of Christian August Scholderer and Anna Margareta Lutscher.3,1 John Sholder married, at age 34, Hannah J. Berry, age 22, daughter of Peter Berry and Elizabeth Kinley, on Thursday, 27 March 1884 at Home of Peter Berry, Newberry, Lycoming County, Pennsylvania, by the Reverend J. M. King.2 John Sholder died in 1913 at age 63 years.
     John Sholder was listed as living in the household of Christian August Scholderer in the Seventh Census for the United States of America, enumerated on 19 September 1850 Lycoming Township, Lycoming County, Pennsylvania.4

John Sholder was enumerated on 30 July 1860 as a resident in the household of Christian August Scholderer in the Eighth Census for the United States of America, in the State of Pennsylvania, Lycoming County, Old Lycoming Township age 12 born in Pennsylvania.5

A brief account for John has been found in the "History of Lycoming County, Pennsylvania." Originally published in 1892, editor, John F. Meginness helped to ensured that this bit of history would be saved for his descendants. The following account was found on page 1136:

     JOHN SHOLDER, sixth son of Christian Sholder, Sr., was born May 29, 1849, upon the homestead in Old Lycoming, township. He principally followed farming, although sometimes engaged in other occupations, until 1891, when he located upon his present place, and joined his brother Daniel in truck farming. He was married in March, 1884, to Hannah, daughter of Peter Berry, of Newberry, who has borne him two children: Daisy M., and Josie A. Mr. Sholder is a Democrat, and an active member of the Farmers' Alliance.2 He and Hannah J. Berry appeared on the census of 14 June 1900 at Old Lycoming Township, Lycoming County, Pennsylvania. As of 1910, John Sholder lived at Lycoming Creek Road, Newberry, Lycoming County, Pennsylvania. His occupation is listed as being a gardener.6 He and Hannah J. Berry appeared on the census of 18 April 1910 at Old Lycoming Township, Lycoming County, Pennsylvania. John Sholder appears in family photograph on 24 August 1912 Williamsport, Lycoming County, Pennsylvania. This was taken as a part of a family reunion in which this photograph appeared in the Sunday Grit on 1 September 1912.
