Donald M. Calkins was born on 30 June 1901.1,3 He was the son of John Agustus Calkins and Mary Christina Stahl. Donald M. Calkins married Josephine Carrie Oehrli, daughter of Fred Oehrli and Sallie Pierce, in 1924.2,4 Donald M. Calkins died on 26 April 1967 at age 65 years, 9 months and 27 days.2,3 He has also been reported to have died 15 April 1967.1 He was buried on 28 April 1967 in section M, lot 405, grave 37, in the Wildwood Cemetery, located in Williamsport, Lycoming County, Pennsylvania.3
He appeared on the census of 20 April 1910 in the household of John Agustus Calkins and Mary Christina Stahl at Williamsport, 7th Ward, Lycoming County, Pennsylvania. Donald M. Calkins was in military service serving in the U.S. Army during World War I between 21 July 1917 and 30 December 1919. He was a Private in Company E, 103rd Regiment, 28th Division, Ammo Train. In civilian life, he remained an active member of veteran organizations. In 1945, he was elected assistant chaplain of the Steinbacher Post 617 of the American Legion and, in 1946, Director of the Society of the 28th Division for a 3 year period. He was so proud of his service that he is identified as Pvt. Donald M. Calkins on his gravestone.3 He appeared on the census of 23 January 1920 in the household of John Agustus Calkins and Mary Christina Stahl at Old Lycoming Township, Lycoming County, Pennsylvania. Donald M. Calkins was a car salesman circa 1930. Later he and his father had their own business as gunsmiths and locksmiths, J. A. Calkins and Son Co. He and Josephine Carrie Oehrli appeared on the census of 5 April 1930 at Williamsport, 5th Ward, Lycoming County, Pennsylvania. Donald M. Calkins, deceased, formerly lived at 722 Krause Avenue, Williamsport, Pennsylvania, as of April 1967.3 The Social Security Death Index gives the last residence of record for Donald as Williamsport, Lycoming County, Pennsylvania.1
