     Edward Carl Wein was born on 2 August 1896 at Butler, Day County, South Dakota.1,2 He was the son of Christian Stephan Wein and Emma Linck.1 Edward Carl Wein first married, at age 30, Estella Henrickson on Wednesday, 29 June 1927 at Aberdeen, Brown County, South Dakota.1 Edward Carl Wein married a second time, at age 42, Martha Fisher, age 41 on Monday, 26 September 1938 at Aberdeen, Brown County, South Dakota.1 Edward Carl Wein died on 29 August 1984 at age 88 years and 27 days.1,2 He was buried on 1 September 1984 in the Webster Cemetery, located in Webster, Day County, South Dakota. The funeral service was officiated by Reverend Harold Palm.1
     Edward Carl Wein, Esther Wein's brother was listed in her obituary in June 1968 in the local paper, printed in Webster, Day County, South Dakota.1 As of October 1968, Edward Carl Wein lived at Webster, Day County, South Dakota.1

     Rosa Emma Wein's obituary from in the Reporter and Farmer, printed in Webster, Day County, South Dakota, dated in October 1968 listed Edward Carl Wein as her brother.1 His obituary was published on 31 August 1984 Webster, Day County, South Dakota. His obituary stated:

     Webster, SD - Edward C. 88, Webster, died Aug. 29 in a Webster nursing home.

     Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m., Saturday in the American Lutheran Church at Webster. The Rev. Harold Palm will officiate. Burial will be in the Webster Cemetery.

     Visitation will be in the Fiksdal Funeral Service at Webster today from 7 to 9 p.m. and in the church Saturday until 10:15 a.m.

     Mr. Wein was born Aug. 2, 1896, at Butler to Mr. and Mrs. Christ Wein. He married Estella Hendrickson June 29, 1927, at Aberdeen. The couple farmed in Butler Township until Mrs. Wein's death in 1937.

     He married Martha Fischer Sept. 26, 1938, at Aberdeen. They also farmed in Butler Township until their retirement in the early 1960's. Mrs. Wein died in 1966. Mr. Wein entered the nursing home in 1979.

     During his younger years, Mr. Wein played baseball in the Butler-Holmquist area, was active in Day County Republican politics and was a member of the Day County Crop Improvement Association and Farm Bureau.

     Survivors include two sons, James of Orange, CA, and Jay of Excelsior, MN; a sister, Mrs. Marvin Ludtke of Webster; seven grandchildren; and a great-grandchild.1
The Social Security Death Index gives the last residence of record for Edward as Excelsior, Hennepin County, Minnesota.2
