Rosa Emma Wein1

     Rosa Emma Wein was born on 7 June 1889 at Butler, Day County, South Dakota.1 She was the daughter of Christian Stephan Wein and Emma Linck.1 Rosa Emma Wein was baptized, at age 1 month and 14 days, on Sunday, 21 July 1889 at Butler Evangelical Church, Butler, Day County, South Dakota, by the Reverend Andrus Immer.1 Rosa Emma Wein first married Thornton Oldfield in 1915.1 Rosa Emma Wein married a second time Charles Schmidt in 1919 at Butler, Day County, South Dakota.1 Rosa Emma Wein died on 4 October 1968 at Webster, Day County, South Dakota, at age 79 years, 3 months and 27 days.1 She was buried in the Prarie Mound Cemetery, located in Butler, Day County, South Dakota.1
     Rosa Emma Wein was listed in Esther Wein's obituary in June 1968 in the local paper, printed in Webster, Day County, South Dakota, as her sister.1 Her obituary was published sometime in October 1968 in the Reporter and Farmer, printed in Webster, Day County, South Dakota. Her obituary stated:

     Funeral services for Rosa Schmidt were held Monday October 7, 1968 at the United Methodist Church of Butler. Rev. William Brieher of Butler and Rev. A. P. Doering, Chaplain of Bethesda Nursing Home, officiated.

     Mrs. Schmidt was born June 7, 1889 at Butler to Christian and Emma Wein and was baptized and confirmed in the Butler Methodist, later the Evangelical United Brethren Church. She attended the Butler schools and later attended Brookings State College for two winter sessions in 1909-10 to study Home Economics.

     She was a lifetime resident of Day County except for two and one half years which were spent in Watertown. In March of 1958, during a visit to her son Ivan at Emporia, Kansas, she had her first stroke. In October of 1963 she became seriously ill and from that time on her health continued to fail. Since July 1967, she was bedridden, continuing to have strokes until her death, Friday, October 4, 1968 at the Bethesda Nursing Home in Webster, South Dakota.

     Left to mourn are her four children: Hazel [Mrs. Quentin Peterson], Watertown; Ivan of Garland, Texas; Regina [Mrs. Clarence Murschel], South Elgin, IL; and Burton of Sergeant Bluff, IA; 14 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren; four brothers, William of Seattle, Henry of Garden City, Ed C. [Kelly] of Webster and Adolf of Butler; one sister Ida [Mrs. Marvin Ludtke] of Webster.

     Preceding her in death were her parents, one brother Julius and one sister, Esther Batie.

     Interment was at the Butler Prairie Mound Cemetery. Active pallbearers were Gail Wein, LeVern Batie, Larry Wein, Rolfe Ludtke, Eugene Buhler and Magnus Espeland.1
