Leona Margaret Elizabeth Leibbrandt was born on 9 June 1912 at Marion, Franklin County, Nebraska.1 She was the daughter of Jakob Amuel Leibbrandt and Martha Mucret Boll.1 Leona Margaret Elizabeth Leibbrandt married, at age 19, Amos Henry Breitling, age 21, son of Gotthilf Breitling and Katherina B. Degele, on Thursday, 18 June 1931 at Nebraska.1 Leona Margaret Elizabeth Leibbrandt died on 25 August 2008 at McCook, Red Willow County, Nebraska, at age 96 years, 2 months and 16 days.1
Her obituary was published on 27 August 2008 in the McCook Daily Gazette, printed in McCook, Red Willow County, Nebraska. Her obituary stated:
Leona Margaret Elizabeth Breitling died Monday, Aug. 25, 2008, at Hillcrest Nursing Home in McCook at the age of 96.
She was born June 9, 1912, on a farm north of Marion, Neb., the daughter of Jacob and Martha (Boll) Leibbrandt. She grew up on the family farm and was baptized and confirmed at St. John's Lutheran Church at Ash Creek.
On June 18, 1931, Leona married Amos Breitling at St. John's Lutheran Church at Ash Creek and they farmed south of McCook before retiring and moving to McCook in 1960.
She enjoyed her roses and was active with hand and machine quilting.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Amos; by an infant son; brother, Samuel Leibbrandt; sister, Adela Kisker; her parents; and son-in-law, Paul Guszak.
She was a member of the Peace Lutheran Church in McCook.
Leona is survived by two daughters, Arlis Betz and husband, Vaughn of Wickenburg, Ariz., and Kathleen Guszak of Highlands Ranch, Colo; five grandchildren, Neal Betz, Linda Kapke, Jeff Guszak, Kaye Holbrock and David Betz; 10 great-grandchildren, Joshua Betz, Devin Betz, Kevin Kapke, Laura Kapke, Paul Guszak, Emily Holbrock, Jamie Guszak, Holly Holbrock, Elizabeth Betz and Grace Betz.
Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m., Saturday, Aug. 30, 2008, at Peace Lutheran Church in McCook with the Rev. Paul Warneke officiating. Interment will be in the Ash Creek Cemetery southeast of McCook.
Memorials may be given in her name and friends may call at Herrmann Funeral Home from 9 a.m. - 9 p.m. Herrmann Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.1
