     Ruby Jewel Brown was born on 11 August 1932 at Guilford County, North Carolina.2,3 She was the daughter of Bill Brown and Era Vickers.3 Ruby Jewel Brown married, at age 20, Jack Willard Tebbs, son of Willard Edward Tebbs and Evelyn Caroline Sholder, on Saturday, 8 August 1953 at Greensboro, Guilford County, North Carolina.1,3 Ruby Jewel Brown died on 23 August 2003 at age 71 years and 12 days.2,3 She was buried on 26 August 2003 in the Guilford Memorial Park, located in Guilford County, North Carolina. The funeral service was officiated by Reverend Dale Dragomir.3
     Her obituary was published on 25 August 2003 in the Greensboro News & Record, printed in Greensboro, Guilford County, North Carolina. Her obituary stated:

     Ruby "Jewel" Tebbs, 71, went to be with the Lord on Aug. 23, 2003, after a courageous battle with cancer.

The funeral will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Aug. 26, 2003, at Hunter Hills Friends Meeting, 1201 Merritt Drive, with the Rev. Dale Dragomir officiating. Burial will follow in Guilford Memorial Park.

A native of Guilford County, Jewel was born Aug. 11, 1932, to the late Bill and Era Vickers Brown. She was also preceded in death by one sister, Carolyn Joyce Penley.

Jewel is remembered as a devoted and loving wife and helpmate to her husband, as well as a loving sister and friend to all she met. She was very active as choir director, Sunday school teacher and youth leader and retired from the University of North Carolina at Greensboro in 1992 as a Financial Aid Officer.

Survivors include her husband of 50 years, Rev. Jack Tebbs of the home; sons, Rev. David Tebbs and wife, Karen of Canton, Ohio, Mark Tebbs and wife, Leisa of Augusta, Ga., and Timothy Tebbs of Davie, Fla. Also surviving are five grandchildren; eight nieces and nephews; and 10 great-nieces and nephews. Jewel leaves behind a loving sister, Betty Robinson and brothers-in-law, Jim Robinson of Greensboro, Rev. Jake Penley of Yadkinville and Donald Tebbs of Denver, Colo.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. Monday, Aug. 25, 2003, at Forbis and Dick Funeral Service, North Elm Street and other times at the residence.
