William Robert Wegehaupt1,2

     William Robert Wegehaupt was born on 15 July 1912 at South Dakota.1,2 He was the son of Emil Wegehaupt and Martha Geigle.2 William Robert Wegehaupt married, at age 23, Erna Regina Friedrich, age 18, daughter of Otto Friedrich and Emma Weisz, on Monday, 6 January 1936 at Delmont, Douglas County, South Dakota.1,2 William Robert Wegehaupt died on 13 April 2001 at Manor Care Health Services, Aberdeen, Brown County, South Dakota, at age 88 years, 8 months and 29 days.1 He was buried on 17 April 2001 in the Zion Lutheran Church Cemetery, located in Delmont, Douglas County, South Dakota. The funeral service was officiated by Reverend Richard Weeman.2
     William Robert Wegehaupt also went by the name of Bill.2 His obituary was published sometime in April 2001 in the local paper, printed in Aberdeen, Brown County, South Dakota. His obituary stated:

     Aberdeen -- The funeral for William Robert 'Bill' Wegehaupt, 88, of 1701 E. Melgaard Road and formerly of Delmont, will be at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday at Zion Lutheran Church in Delmont. The Rev. Richard Weeman will officiate. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Spitzer-Osthus Funeral Home, 320 Sixth Ave. S.E., Aberdeen, is in charge of arrangements.

     A prayer service will be at 7 p.m. Monday at the funeral home in Aberdeen.

     Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Monday at the funeral home in Aberdeen and for two hours prior to the service Tuesday at the church in Delmont.

     He died Friday, April 13, 2001, at ManorCare Health Services in Aberdeen.

     William Robert Wegehaupt was born July 15, 1912, to Emil and Martha (Geigle) Wegehaupt in Hillside. When he was a young child, the family moved to the Delmont area, where he grew up and attended school.

     He married Erna Friederich on Jan. 6, 1936, at Delmont. They farmed near Hillside and later in the Delmont area, retiring in 1977. In 1981, they moved to Delmont. They then moved to Aberdeen in 1997 to be close to family.

     He was a member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Aberdeen and a former member of Zion Lutheran Church in Delmont.

     He enjoyed attending all sporting activities of his children and grandchildren. He also enjoyed traveling with his wife on bus tours throughout the United States and Canada.

     Survivors include his wife of Aberdeen; three sons, Jerald (JoAnn) Wegehaupt of Big Fork, Minn., Glenn (Peggy) Wegehaupt of Aberdeen, and Kevin (Tammie) Wegehaupt of Sisseton; one daughter, Wynell Wegehaupt of Weston, Fla; one sister, Edna Bierwagen of Sioux Falls; nine grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

     He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers and one sister.2
