     Joseph Scholder was born on 10 February 1876 at San Diego County, California.1,2 He was the son of Karl Friedrich Scholder and Juaquina Laws.1 Joseph Scholder married Matilda Jamison circa August 1900 at Carlisle, Cumberland County, Pennsylvania.2,3 Joseph Scholder died on 12 April 1942 at Riverside, Riverside County, California, at age 66 years, 2 months and 2 days.1,2 He was buried in lawn R, RSDW 1, lot / column 250, GNC 3, in the Olivewood Cemetery, located in Riverside, Riverside County, California.2
     He appeared on the census of 10 June 1880 in the household of Karl Friedrich Scholder and Juaquina Laws at Ballena Township, San Diego County, California. Joseph Scholder appeared on the census of 6 June 1900 at Indian Industrial School, Carlisle, Cumberland County, Pennsylvania. He and Matilda Jamison appeared on the census of 27 April 1910 at Riverside, 6th Ward, Riverside County, California. Joseph Scholder and Matilda Jamison appeared on the census of 9 January 1920 at Riverside, 6th Ward, Riverside County, California. Joseph Scholder and Matilda Jamison appeared on the census of 2 April 1930 at Riverside, 6th Ward, Riverside County, California. His obituary was published on 22 April 1942 in the Daily Times Advocate, printed in Escondido, San Diego County, California. His obituary stated:

     DEATH SUMMONS COUNTY PIONEER

     Joseph Scholder, a half-breed Mission Indian, born in San Diego county Feb. 10, 1876, died in his home in Riverside Sunday. He had been employed at the Sherman Institute for 40 years, retiring a year ago.

     When he attended Carlisle institute in Pennsylvania just before the turn of the century, Mr. Scholder was one of [the] Coach Glenn Pop Warners famed Indian football teams with Bemis Pierce, now at Shermans, and other well known Indian athletes. At Carlisle he married Matilda Jamison who came from the Seneca tribe in New York state.

     They came to California in 1900 where he was employed by the Sherman Institute before it was moved from Perris. He was an industrial instructor, specializing in masonry and at times acted as coach of athletic teams.

     The father of Mr. Scholder came from Germany and was with General Fremonts army, remaining in California after it was disbanded.

     Funeral services were held in Riverside.2
