     Robert Edward Pluff was born on 16 March 1929 at Greenfield, Franklin County, Massachusetts.1,2 He was the son of Arhtur J. Pluff and Eunice J. Prue.2 Robert Edward Pluff married Mary T. Galvin in 1954 at Greenfield, Franklin County, Massachusetts.2 Robert Edward Pluff died on 22 February 2001 at Vermont Respite House, Williston, Chittenden County, Vermont, at age 71 years, 11 months and 6 days.1,2
     He appeared on the census of 21 April 1930 in the household of Arhtur J. Pluff and Eunice J. Prue at Greenfield, Franklin County, Massachusetts. Robert Edward Pluff graduated in 1947 from Deerfield Academy, located in Deerfield, Franklin County, Massachusetts.2 He graduated in 1952 from Georgetown University, located in Washington, District of Columbia, and received a bachelor of science degree.2 His obituary was published on 22 February 2001 in the Burlington Free Press, printed in Burlington, Chittenden County, Vermont. His obituary stated:

     BURLINGTON — Robert Edward Pluff, 71, of 230 St. Paul St. died Thursday, Feb. 22, 2001, in the Vermont Respite House in Williston after a brief illness.

He was born in Greenfield, Mass., on March 16, 1929, the son of Arthur J. and Eunice (Prue) Pluff. He attended Holy Trinity School in Greenfield and graduated from Deerfield Academy in Deerfield, Mass., Class of 1947. He received a B.S. (S.S.) degree from Georgetown University in Washington, D.C., Class of 1952.

He served in the U.S. Army from 1952 to 1954, G-2 Pentagon, Strategic Intelligence. Bob worked at Fidelity and Surety Bonding, Royal Globe Insurance Group in New York and Boston from 1954 to 1956. He then owned Stimson & Sons Insurance Agency in Greenfield and Galvin’s Liquor Store in Greenfield form 1956 to 1959. From 1956 to 1969, he owned A&A Finance Corporation in Greenfield. From 1969 to 1986, he was a real estate broker in Stratton Mountain. In 1986, he became the manager of the Mill Hotel/Condominium Complex in Ludlow until he retired to Burlington in 1993.

Bob was a member of the Insurance Agency Trade Association, Retail Liquor Trade Association president; trustee and finance chairman of the Chapel of the Snows in Stratton Mountain, class agent at Deerfield Academy, director of the UMCA, director and original stockholder of Stratton Mountain Ski Area, officer of the Stratton Restaurant Corporation, director of Deacon Holbrook Foundation and a member of the Knights of Columbus.

He was married in 1954 to Mary T. Galvin in Greenfield. She currently resides in Daytona Beach, Fla.

He enjoyed skiing and barbecues with the family and loved his convertible automobiles.

He is survived by his children, James Galvin Pluff of Salido, Colo, Ann-Marie Plank of Charlotte and grandchildren Margo and Karia Plank, of Charlotte, Brian Thomas Pluff of Nantucket, Mass., Mark Wiliam Pluff of Jamaica, Vt; Christopher Michael Pluff and his wife, Kelley of Newfane and grandchildren Laura and Emily Pluff, and Elizabeth Cipolla and her husband, Donald, of Torrington, Conn.

He was predeceased by his parents; his stepmother, Alice Herd; and a brother, James Pluff.

A private family service will be held Feb. 24, 2001, and services and committal will be held in the spring in Holy Trinity Church in Greenfield, Mass. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Vermont Respite House, 99 Allen Brook Lane, Williston, VT 05495. Arrangements are by the Ready Funeral Home South Chapel, 261 Shelburne Road, Burlington.3
