Georg Scholderer1,2

M, (30 April 1631 - before 1710)
Georg Scholderer was born on 30 April 1631 at Rosenfeld, Oberamt Sulz, Schwarzwaldkreis, Württemberg.2,3,4 He was the son of Ulrich Scholderer and Eva [—?—].3,2,4 Georg Scholderer married, at age 21, Maria Erhardt, age 26, daughter of Hans Erhardt and Maria [—?—], on Saturday, 4 May 1652 at Rosenfeld, Oberamt Sulz, Schwarzwaldkreis, Württemberg.3,1,2,4,5 Georg Scholderer died before 1710.6,7
Georg Scholderer was also known as Jerg Scholderer.3 Georg Scholderer was also known as Georg Scholder.4,5 He was listed in the church books as being a Gerichtsverwandter [Member of Judicial Court], Burgermeister [Mayor] and Farber [Dyer].3 The following notes are from Brad Feldmaier: It is unclear whether Ursula Mohr was the second wife of Jerg (b. 1631) or if she may have been the wife of his son Hanß Georg (b. 1653). There are gaps in the Rosenfeld church records that make this determination difficult. A Maria Scholder died in Rosenfeld in May 1693 at age 67; this could be Maria (Erhardt) Scholder but the entry is not conclusive. A marriage of Georg Scholder, burgermeister, to Ursula Mohr followed in September 1693. This would be consistent with a pattern of remarrying within a short period of a spousal death that was common in the 1600s and 1700s in Wurttemberg.

This compiler has not detected any death record for Hanß Georg (b. 1653) or any other marriage record in Rosenfeld for Hanß Georg. Given that he would have been 40 years old at the time of a 1693 marriage, with no record of marriage to or death of an earlier spouse, I believe that it is unlikely that he would have married first at age 40.

For these reasons, this compiler has shown Ursula Mohr as the second spouse of Jerg (b. 1631). This presentation is subject to further research.

Accepting the premise that Ursula was Jerg’s second wife, he would have died between 1706 (the birth year of his last child with Ursula) and 1710 (the year Ursula married again). The death register in Rosenfeld is missing from 1708 to 1712, precluding any ability to verify.8 The following notes are from Erika Lanz: Kevin, it is very difficult to find out about the Georg=Jerg versus Hans Georg=Georg. I am pretty positive that they are two different people:

Georg = Jerg born 1631 married Maria Erhardt, and his son Hans Georg born 1653 and married Ursula Mohr. Georg=Jerg would have been too old to have children in 1708 [age 77]. I did not however find any death entry which could give me a clue. My big hope was the marriage entry of Hans Georg, by the way I forgot to put in on the chart, marriage on 07.09.1693 [7 September 1693] H. Georg Scholderer, Bürgermeister with Ursula Mohr, Caspar Mohr's daughter. When he is mentioned it is always H. Georg, and Bürgermeister [Mayor], on his father it just switches between Georg and Jerg and no mention of a Bürgermeister’s job. If he would have been married before is would state that he was a widower (at least it should - if the parson did not forget).

I think it is just a coincidence that a Maria – H. Georg's (mother?) – died the same year he, Hans Georg, got married. But it sure is confusing.

On the 18th of May 2006 Erika sent the following additional information:

There was a marriage before in Balingen, that’s why we have not found anything in Rosenfeld. First marriage was to Anna Margareta (no family name) in Balingen in 1674 with 4 children, all born in Balingen. Second marriage was in Rosenfeld to Ursula Mohr in 1693 with 7 children.

And Brad's comments are correct, he was first Gerichts-Verwandter which means lay member of court, and then later in Rosenfeld he was the town mayor (elected). He made his living as dyer. To become mayor, a person had to have good character qualities as well as needing money. As mayor he was the first man in the community, and an honourable person.

This caused some more confusion to me, because in the birth entries of his children it says: H. Georg Scholderer. Now, this H. could stand for Hans (his name) or Herr = Mister. Entries for honourable persons usually are like: Herr Georg Scholderer, entries from “normal” people it just would say: Georg Scholderer.

Erika states that she is pretty positive that the info about the two marriage is correct, at least 80%. One thing makes me question this is because the marriage entry in 1693 does not say that he was a widower – which it usually does.9,10
