     Bertha E. Friedrich was born on 4 February 1914 at Kaylor, Hutchinson County, South Dakota.1 She was the daughter of Otto Friedrich and Emma Weisz.1 Bertha E. Friedrich married, at age 19, Edwin Henry Beck, age 23, son of John Beck and Rosaline Schmoll, on Thursday, 16 February 1933 at Saint Paul's Lutheran Church, Douglas County, South Dakota.1,2 Bertha E. Friedrich died on 12 July 2009 at Tripp, Hutchinson County, South Dakota, at age 95 years, 5 months and 8 days.1 She was buried in the Zion Lutheran Church Cemetery, located in Delmont, Douglas County, South Dakota.1
     Bertha E. Friedrich was also known as Bertha E. Friederich.1 She was widowed at age 69 by the death of Edwin on 10 February 1983.1,2 Her obituary was published on 14 July 2009 in the local paper, printed in Hutchinson County, South Dakota. Her obituary stated:

     Bertha Beck, 95, Delmont, died Sunday, July 12, 2009, at Tripp Good Samaritan Center, Tripp.

     Funeral services will be at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday at Zion Lutheran Church, Delmont. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Visitation will be from 12:30 to 1:30 p.m.

     Arrangements are under the direction of Koehn Brothers Funeral Home, Parkston.

     She was born on Feb. 4, 1914, at Kaylor to Otto and Emma (Weisz) Friederich.

     She attended school at Kaylor until the family moved to Delmont, where she continued her education until graduating from the eighth grade.

     On Feb. 16, 1933, she married Edwin Beck at St. Paul's Lutheran Church, near Delmont.

     They lived and farmed near Delmont until retiring and moving into Delmont in 1978.

     She is survived by a son, Ronald and wife Marilyn, Woodenville, Wash; two daughters: Lianne Gunnare and husband John, Wagner; and Jan Jones and husband Larry, Shawnee, KS; 13 grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren, four great-great-grandchildren, a sister, Erna Wegehaupt, Aberdeen; and two half-sisters: Lorraine Myers and Hulda Stolz.

     NOTE: Bertha Beck's obituary lists the spelling of her maiden name as FRIEDERICH, but her father's name is listed as spelled FRIEDRICH on his cemetery headstone, and several family histories use the headstone spelling.1
