     Gottfried Bietz was born on 18 November 1876 at Maloiaroslavets' Druhyi, Odes'ka, Russian Empire (Ukraine).1 He was the son of Friederich Wilhelm Bietz and Anna Maria Ensslen.1 Gottfried Bietz first married Christina Friederich, daughter of Friedrich Johann Friederich and Karolina Dorothea Ziegler, in 1898.1,2 Gottfried Bietz married a second time, at age 75, Theresa Lessing Reiman, age 72, daughter of Samuel Reiman and Katharina Rahl, on Saturday, 2 August 1952.3 Gottfried Bietz died on 20 June 1965 at Jamestown, Stutsman County, North Dakota, at age 88 years, 7 months and 2 days.1 He was buried in row 5, grave 2, in the Dennewitz Cemetery, located in Hutchinson County, South Dakota.1
     He became a widower at the age of 74 with the death of Christina on 9 August 1951.2
