Gretchen L. Stuhlmiller1,2,3

     Gretchen L. Stuhlmiller was born on 26 August 1944 at New Philadelphia, Tuscarawas County, Ohio.2,3 She was the daughter of Jack E. Stuhlmiller and Barbara [—?—].3 Gretchen L. Stuhlmiller married Steven Feldmaier, son of George A. Feldmaier and Janet Kathryn Harner, in 1965.1,3 Gretchen L. Stuhlmiller died on 5 February 2006 at Marietta, Washington County, Ohio, at age 61 years, 5 months and 10 days.2,3 She was buried on 10 February 2006.3
     She graduated from Kent State University, located in Kent, Portage County, Ohio, with a Bachelor of Arts degree.3,4 She graduated from Marygrove College, located in Detroit, Wayne County, Michigan.3,5 Her obituary was published sometime in February 2006 in the Marietta Times, printed in Marietta, Washington County, Ohio. Her obituary stated:

     Gretchen Feldmaier (Stuhlmiller) of Hart Street, Marietta, died Sunday (Feb. 5, 2006) at her residence.

Gretchen is survived by her husband of 41 years, Steven; mother, Barbara Stuhlmiller, of Naples, Fla., and Marietta; father-in-law, George Feldmaier, of Dayton, Ohio; one daughter, Lauren and her husband, Gary Crum, of Oakton, Va; one son, Matthew and his wife, Cinthia, of Powell, Ohio; four grandchildren, Ryan and Andrew Crum, and Daniela and Jacob Feldmaier; brother, Andrew Stuhlmiller and wife, Mary, and three nieces, Elisha, Cori and Abby, of Springboro, Ohio.

She is also survived by, in her words, "a group of the most wonderful and caring friends."

She was preceded in death by her father, Jack Stuhlmiller and mother-in-law, Janet Feldmaier. Gretchen was born in 1944 in New Philadelphia, Ohio. She graduated from Kent State University with a BA and later obtained her master¹s degree from Marygrove College. Gretchen resided with her family in Tuscaloosa, Ala., and later North Canton, Ohio, where she was chairman of the Bicentennial Committee and Young Adult Librarian at the North Canton Public Library. She and her family also resided in Singapore where she served on the Singapore American School Board and led one of the first tourist groups into mainland China in 1980. The family moved to Marietta in 1981. Gretchen taught English and German at Warren High School and the Washington State Community College. While residing in Marietta, Gretchen was a member of American Associates of University Women, Betsey Mills Girls Council, P.E.O. and St. Luke’s Lutheran Church.

Memorial services will be held at 3 p.m. Friday (Feb. 10) at St. Luke’s Lutheran Church. A reception will be held in the Fellowship Hall after the services.

Gretchen requested that, in lieu of flowers, any memorial contributions please be sent to the Mid-Ohio Valley Dragon Boat Fund, The Gretchen S. Feldmaier Memorial Fund at Washington State Community College, or St. Luke’s Lutheran Church.

The Mid-Ohio Valley Dragon Boat Fund stemmed from Gretchen’s wish to organize a 16 person dragon boat which encourages and supports people living with cancer to stay healthy and join other survivors in the sport of dragon boat racing. She continues to inspire the group and the first boat will be christened in her name. Contributions should be mailed to the Mid-Ohio Valley Dragon Boat Fund, P.O. Box 77, Marietta, Ohio 45750 (mark the donation "DragonBoat / Gretchen").

The Gretchen S. Feldmaier Memorial Fund is established to award scholarships to non-traditional students going from WSCC on to a four-year baccalaureate degree. Gretchen had a lifelong love of teaching and connecting with students of all ages. Donations should be sent to Washington State Community College Foundation, Attention: Gail Reynolds, 710 Colgate Drive, Marietta, Ohio 45750 (mark the donation "Gretchen S. Feldmaier Scholarship").

Gretchen was a member of St. Luke’s Lutheran Church where she felt embraced by the community of faith. Donations should be sent to St. Luke’s Lutheran Church at 401 Scammel St., Marietta, Ohio 45750.

Arrangements have been entrusted to the Marietta Chapel of Cawley & Peoples Funeral Home.3
