     Marylen Hill was born on 14 June 1919 at Natick, Middlesex County, Massachusetts.1,3,4 She married, at age 22, Gilbert C. Small Jr., age 24, son of Gilbert C. Small and Christine Schoff, on Saturday, 28 February 1942 at Natick, Middlesex County, Massachusetts.1,2,4 Marylen Hill died on 22 May 2006 at Newport Hospital, Newport, Newport County, Rhode Island, at age 86 years, 11 months and 8 days.4,3 A memorial service for Marylen Hill was held First Parish Church, Wayland, Middlesex County, Massachusetts, on 17 June 2006 at 10 a.m.4
     Marylen Hill also went by the name of Posie.4 She was graduated in 1937 from Walnut Hill School, located in Natick, Middlesex County, Massachusetts.4 She graduated in 1939 from Colby Junior College, located in New London, Merrimack County, New Hampshire, with an Associate Degree in Arts.4 She was a floral designer at Russell's Garden Center at Wayland, Middlesex County, Massachusetts.4

     The former Marylen Hill was listed in the obituary of Gilbert C. Small Jr., on 15 March 2005 in the The Boston Globe, printed in Boston, Suffolk County, Massachusetts, as his wife.2 Her obituary was published on 11 June 2006 Boston, Suffolk County, Massachusetts. Her obituary stated:

     SMALL, Marylen "Posie" (Hill); 86, died May 22nd in the Newport Hospital in Newport, RI. Mrs. Small was born in Natick, in 1919, and graduated from the Walnut Hill School in 1937. She received her Associate Degree in Arts from Colby Junior College, New London, NH, in 1939. While in college she met Gilbert Small, Jr. and they were married in February of 1942. Soon after the wedding Gil was sent to Guadalcanal with the First Marine Division. After the war, the Smalls built a home in Wayland where they raised three children.

Marylen was known to many as a floral designer at the Russell's Garden Center in Wayland where she continued to work until her 86th year. She was a charming woman who loved family and friends. She enjoyed traveling and thought nothing of driving to Texas right up until a few years ago. She loved listening to classical music and watching figure skating. Her beloved husband passed away in March of 2005. Marylen moved to Tiverton, RI in February of this year.

She leaves her daughter, Gretchen of Ontario, Canada, and two sons, Bradford of Austin, Tex., and Jonathan of Middletown, RI, as well as four bright grandchildren. In lieu of flowers, Mrs. Small's children request that loved ones send a donation to the charity of their choice. A memorial service is planned for Saturday, June 17th at 10 a.m. at the First Parish Church in Wayland. Private family interment will take place at the convenience of the family. Arrangements under the direction of the John C. Bryant Funeral Home.4
