Paula Scholder1

     Paula Scholder was born in May 1926 at Newark, Essex County, New Jersey.1 She was the daughter of Louis Scholder and Jeanette Shaw.1 Paula Scholder married Jerome Martin Blum in 1953.1 Paula Scholder died on 27 December 2020 at West Orange, Essex County, New Jersey, at age 94 years and 7 months.1 She was buried in the Oheb Shalom Cemetery, located in Hillside, Union County, New Jersey.1
     Her obituary was published sometime in December 2020 on the website for Menorah Chapels at Millburn, Vauxhall, Union County, New Jersey. Her obituary stated:

     Paula Scholder Blum, longtime resident of West Orange, passed away peacefully at home on the evening of December 27th, 2020. Born in Newark in May of 1926, Paula and her older sister, Julia, were raised there by their parents, Louis and Jeanette Scholder.

     Paula attended Weequahic High School, graduating in 1943. She achieved her undergraduate degree from Smith College in 1947. After college, she worked for the Community Chest, a project of the AFL and CIO.

     In 1953, Paula married Jerome M. Blum ("Jerry") and settled initially in Union before moving to West Orange in 1958. It was there that she and Jerry raised their three sons, Robert, Jonathan and Richard.

     Paula was a member of Congregation Oheb Shalom from early childhood and devoted herself to serving the synagogue in many capacities over the years. She also volunteered with various civic organizations, serving as president of the West Orange League of Women Voters and the West Orange High School PTA.

     Paula was the Assistant to the Dean of the Rutgers College of Nursing, where, among other things, she helped the dean launch the school's PhD program in nursing. In retirement, both she and Jerry worked tirelessly running Oheb Shalom's Bobrow Kosher Food Pantry for a decade.

     Jerry passed away in 2009, after 56 years of marriage. Paula is survived by her three sons, her daughter-in-law Dr. Sheryl Sun, and two grandchildren, Andrew Sun and Kathleen Worrall, and Andrew's children Aubrey and Lola. She also leaves behind her beloved niece and nephew, Amy Miller and Daniel Tabowitz; her nieces, Suzanne and Elise Lebovit, as well as her great-niece, Gabrielle Marshall, and her nieces, Ruth Corson and Karen Newman; and she leaves behind an extended family of many beloved cousins.

     Funeral services will take place by Zoom at 11:15 a.m. on Wednesday morning, December 30. There will be shivahs by Zoom on Wednesday and Thursday, December 30 and 31 at 7:30 p.m.1,2
