     James Allen Beck was born on 12 January 1946 at Douglas County, South Dakota.1 He was the son of Edwin Henry Beck and Bertha E. Friedrich.1 James Allen Beck married Shirley Ann Price, daughter of Charles Edwin Price and Delphia Mazie Martin, in 1969.3 James Allen Beck and Shirley Ann Price were divorced circa 1978.3 James Allen Beck died on 24 January 2001 at Phoenix, Maricopa County, Arizona, at age 55 years and 12 days.1 He was buried in the Zion Lutheran Church Cemetery, located in Delmont, Douglas County, South Dakota.1
     He was in military service United States Army in the Viet Nam Conflict as a Field Medic circa 1968.1 He earned a Master of Arts degree from Utah State University, Logan, and a Doctoral Degree in Sociology from South Dakota State University, Brookings.
