Alfred R. Compton1

     Alfred R. Compton was born on 29 October 1915.1 He was the son of Albert C. Compton and Margaret E. Spalding.1 Alfred R. Compton married Jean L. Kelchner, daughter of William Roy Kelchner and Della May Sholder, circa 1944.1 Alfred R. Compton died on 5 September 2012 at Valley View Nursing Center, Montoursville, Lycoming County, Pennsylvania, at age 96 years, 10 months and 7 days.1 He was buried on 10 September 2012 in the Green Lawn Memorial Park, located in Montgomery, Clinton Township, Lycoming County, Pennsylvania. The funeral service was officiated by Roy D. Meyer.1
     His obituary was published on 6 September 2012 in the Williamsport Sun-Gazette, printed in Williamsport, Lycoming County, Pennsylvania. His obituary stated:

     Alfred R. Compton, 96, passed away Wednesday, Sept. 5, 2012, at the Valley View Nursing Center.

     He was born Oct. 29, 1915, the son of Albert C. and Margaret E. Compton.

     His wife, the former Jean L. Kelchner, preceded him in death in 1991.

     Prior to World War II he was employed by Avco. During the war, he served in the Army in the European Theatre of Operations, stationed in Great Britian.

     After the war, he became office manager in the local branch of Swift Co. until the unit was closed. He then was associated with Gail Webster, CPA, as an accountant until his retirement.

     He was an active lifelong member of the Church of the Savior, Lutheran and its predecessor St. John's Lutheran Church and had participated in many of its organizations.

     He was a member of the Masonic Blue Lodge No. 397 and the Williamsport Consistory.

     In 1991, he received the annual Ecumenical Award presented by United Churches of Lycoming County for his services as secretary and treasurer.

     He is survived by a son, Ray (Carol) Compton, of Montoursville; a daughter, Cynthia Mae Compton of Mechanicsburg; one grandson, two granddaughters and one great-grandson.

     Family suggests memorial contributions can be made to the Susquehanna Home Health Hospice, 1100 Grampian Blvd., Williamsport, PA 17701.

     Graveside services will be held 11 a.m. Monday, Sept. 10, 2012, in Green Lawn Memorial Park with Rev. Roy D. Meyer officiating.
