Merle Jean Dorhauer was born on 5 October 1919 at Tinonee, New South Wales, Australia.2 She was the daughter of Edward James Dorhauer and Winifred Angela Chapman.1 Merle Jean Dorhauer married, at age 32, Neville Lewis Atkins, age 32, son of George Melbourne Atkins and Mary Ann Hately, on Tuesday, 29 January 1952 at Taree, New South Wales, Australia.1 Merle Jean Dorhauer died on 21 October 2010 at Eagle Heights, Queensland, Australia, at age 91 years and 16 days.2 She was buried on 26 October 2010 in the Mount Tamborine Cemetery, located in Queensland, Australia.2
Merle was the only child of Edward James Dorhauer and Winifred Angela Chapman. She assisted her mother in the general store they owned in Tinonee.
After her parents divorce, Merle lived her teenage years with her father in Sydney before eventually reuniting with her mother in Taree. She married Neville Atkins and they opened "Dorhauer Real Estate" in Taree. She moved to Eagle Heights Qeensland on Mount Tamborine to be near her only surviving daughter and her family.1
