Sylvia R. Weiner was born on 13 January 1901 at Budapest, Austro-Hungarian Empire.1,2,3 She was the daughter of Leo Weiner and Theresa Schwartz.2 Sylvia R. Weiner married Sol S. Scholder, son of Joseph Aaron Scholder and Anna Steinbach, in 1922.2 Sylvia R. Weiner died on 5 April 1994 at age 93 years, 2 months and 23 days.1,3 She was buried on 7 April 1994 in the B'nai B'rith Cemetery, located in Worcester, Worcester County, Massachusetts.2
She emigrated with Leo Weiner and Theresa Schwartz in 1903 from Austro-Hungarian Empire. Sylvia R. Weiner appeared on the census of 7 January 1920 in the household of Leo Weiner and Theresa Schwartz at Brooklyn, 6th District, Kings County, New York. Sylvia R. Weiner and Sol S. Scholder appeared on the census of 1930 at Brooklyn, 2nd Ward, Kings County, New York. She was widowed at age 79 by the death of Sol on 1 October 1980.2,3,4 Her obituary was published on 7 April 1994 in the Worcester Telegram & Gazette, printed in Worcester, Worcester County, Massachusetts. Her obituary stated:
WORCESTER - Sylvia (Weiner) Scholder, 93, of Wayside Nursing Home, 751 Grove St., formerly of 56 Whitman Road, an active member of the National Council of Jewish Women, died Tuesday in the home after a short illness.
Her husband, Sol S. Scholder, died in 1980. She leaves a son, Paul A. Scholder of Branford, Conn; and three grandchildren. She was born in Budapest, Hungary, daughter of Leo and Theresa (Schwartz) Weiner, and had lived in Brooklyn, N.Y., for 20 years and Washington, D.C., for five years before moving to Worcester 49 years ago.
Mrs. Scholder was a past president of the Worcester section of the National Council of Jewish Women, a life member of the Worcester Chapter of the National Women's Committee of Brandeis University, and a member of Temple Sinai, the Worcester Foundation for Experimental Biology, Worcester Art Museum, and Worcester County Music Association.
Funeral services will be held at 3:30 p.m. today in Perlman Funeral Home, 1026 Main St. Burial will be in B'nai B'rith Cemetery. Memorial week will be observed privately. Memorial contributions may be made to a charity of the donor's choice.2 The Social Security Death Index gives the last residence of record for Sylvia as New Haven, New Haven County, Connecticut.1
