Fritz William Scholder V was born on 6 October 1937 at Breckenridge, Wilkin County, Minnesota.1,2 He was the son of Fritz William Scholder IV and Ella Mae Haney.2 Fritz William Scholder V married Lisa Stephens circa 1958.3 Fritz William Scholder V died on 10 February 2005 at age 67 years, 4 months and 4 days.1
Painter of American Indians — He received a B.A. from Sacramento State College in 1960 and an M.F.A. from the University of Arizona in 1964. Soon after, Lloyd Kiva New, the arts director at the newly established Institute of American Indian Arts in Santa Fe, N.M., invited Mr. Scholder to join the faculty.
He was survived by his wife, Lisa; a son, Fritz William Scholder VI of Tampa, Fla; a grandson, Fritz VII; and two sisters, Sondra Clark of Los Altos, Calif., and Kristina Anderson of San Leandro, Calif.
A memorial service was held at the Heard Museum.4 According to the Social Security Administrations Death Index Fritz's last known residence was Scottsdale, Maricopa County, Arizona.1
