     James Madison Stifler was born on 10 February 1875 at Upper Alton, Madison County, Illinois.2,1 He was the son of James Madison Stifler and Mary Jane Carr.1 James Madison Stifler first married, at age 25, Lucy Hannah Burnley, age 26, daughter of Charles W. Burnley and Sarah Harris Updegraff, on Thursday, 6 December 1900 at Swarthmore, Delaware County, Pennsylvania.2,1 James Madison Stifler married a second time, at age 34, Mary Cloyd Burnley, age 32, daughter of Charles W. Burnley and Sarah Harris Updegraff, on Wednesday, 28 July 1909.3,1 James Madison Stifler died on 17 July 1954 at age 79 years, 5 months and 7 days.1
     James Madison Stifler was known as Reverend professionally. He graduated in 1896 from University of Pennsylvania, located in Pennsylvania, where he received his Bachelor of Arts degree. He graduated in 1899 from Crozer Theological Seminary, located in Upland, Delaware County, Pennsylvania, and was ordained as a Baptist Minister. After being ordanied as a minister, he was the pastor for the Baptist Church located in Rosele, New Jersey from 1899 till 1909. Then becoming a minister for the Baptist Church in Evanston, Illinois between 1909 and 1931. After which he has been on the Board of Trustees at the University of Chicago. He is the author of the books entitled: "The Fighting Saint" and "The Christ of Christianity," spending most of his later years as not only an author but as a lecturer on the teachings of the Bible in various venues. He became a widower at the age of 28 with the death of Lucy on 21 March 1903.2,4,1 James Madison Stifler graduated in 1913 from Denison University, located in Granville, Licking County, Ohio, with a Doctor of Divinity degree. He graduated in 1925 from Brown University, located in Providence, Providence County, Rhode Island. Circa 1950, James Madison Stifler and Mary Cloyd Burnley lived at 1360 East South 8th Street, Chicago, Illinois.
