Benjamin P. Collins was born on 18 October 1915 at Lynn, Essex County, Massachusetts.1,2 He married Rose Margaret Haigis, daughter of John William Haigis and Rose Grace Luippold, circa 1940.1 Benjamin P. Collins died on 26 February 1996 at Franklin Medical Center, Greenfield, Franklin County, Massachusetts, at age 80 years, 4 months and 8 days.1,2
He became a widower at the age of 76 with the death of Rose on 25 April 1992.1,3 His obituary was published on 28 February 1996 in the Union-News, printed in Springfield, Hampden County, Massachusetts. His obituary stated:
Benjamin P. Collins, 80, of 45c Highland Village, a retired Boston & Maine Railroad employee, died Monday at Franklin Medical Center in Greenfield. Born in Lynn, he was a graduate of Greenfield High School, and attended Norwich, Vt., University. He lived in this area for 12 years. His wife, the former Rose M. Haigis, predeceased him. He leaves two sons, John H. of Spotsylvania, Va., and Benjamin P. Jr. of Buckland; a daughter, Sandra Simmons of Naperville, Ill; a sister, Barbara "Betty" E. Hoyt of Shelburne Falls; six grandchildren, and four great-grandchildren. There are no services, and Smith-Kelleher Funeral Home is in charge. Memorial contributions may be made to the Ambulance Association, Williams Street, Shelburne Falls, Mass., 01370.1
